Gurkhas Everest Expedition

Branding

All work completed at Aesop Agency.

In 2015, to commemorate the bicentenary of Gurkha service to the British Crown, an attempted ascent of Everest took place. However, due to the Nepal earthquake, the expedition was cancelled.

In 2017 the same team will attempt the ascent again. A new marque was needed which would be used across multiple touch points – from the team gear to the flag on the summit.

The logo created is a re-drawing of the Gurkha emblem – 2 crossed "kukri" knives underneath the British crown. The illustration style has been simplified to create a modern marque, which borrows the visual language of adventure badges. The finishing touch is the summit of a mountain hidden in the negative space of the knife handles.
