Lock & Barrel are new to the British ale market. They needed a bold identity and packaging that would stand out in a busy category, as well as being recognisable both on and off trade.

The result is a distinctive and recognisable series of labels, whose hand-drawn typography and illustrations reflect the handcrafted product inside.

 All three labels disguise keys – within illustrations or by playing with negative space – which adds a playful feel and is unique to the brand name. Each neck label features the brand marque – the O and A of which create a keyhole for our hidden keys.

 The tone of voice has been written to reflect the brand – it is playful, humorous and distinctly British. The back of pack messaging is also crafted to each beer name – such as a Knight putting his bottle in the bin on the Dark Castle label.
